Dr. Michael McKellar is a chiropractic success story himself. After suffering a significant back injury in his late teens, he tried everything from medication to physical therapy and osteopathic manipulation to relieve his pain, but his condition only grew worse. Following a traumatic experience with prescription medicine, which caused a blackout, he knew there had to be a better solution. Dr. McKellar’s breakthrough came when he saw a chiropractor who helped him from the very first visit.
“I chose to be a chiropractor because I wanted to help people and I wanted to stay holistic,” Dr. McKellar says. “I am one of several members of my family who suffers from back problems and I did not want to go down the road of multiple surgeries or long-term medications to manage it.”
Dr. McKellar earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from St. Mary’s in Orchard Lake and a Doctorate in Chiropractic degree from National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Illinois. He is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa national honor society and a two-time All-American Scholar. He received several other academic awards.
“The most rewarding part of my job is the feedback I get from my patients, which many times is immediate,” he says. “It is especially rewarding when they decide they no longer need a crutch, a walker, a cane, or their pain killers.”
Dr. McKellar uses patience and gentle touch as he works to find solutions for patients at HealthQuest of Farmington. He knows the value of exercise, even if only for a brief time each day, to help prevent long-term injuries, multiple surgeries or continuous use of medication. Dr. McKellar is trained in the latest methods from motion palpitation to activator technique and physiotherapy. He can create a specialized treatment plan for any patient.
